This is another acoustic project from the ex drummer of Mane Horse. This time its with an amazing female vocalist (Julia Bentley). Everything blends together really well. The beautiful vocals make for amazingly catchy songs. If you like Madeline, Hop along, or Laura Stevenson and the cans you will definitely dig this. This is Dikembe. This EP is ridiculously awesome, and it saddens me that it only contains 4 songs. I know this isn't THAT new, but I am sure some of you who haven't heard will love it.

This is great, non-cheesy (but delightfully catchy), pop punk. The production is perfect for the band's sound. The lyrics are fun to sing along to. LUC BONGLEY is a great song, but all 4 are really good. I cannot wait to hear more from these guys.

So immediately, upon the first note, I fell in love with this album. This new album takes BLUE to a whole new level. The production is perfect for their sound. The vocals are easier to take in (not that I disliked them before)... but HOLY SHIT this slays all. Capsule has a way of sounding 113% badass, but still create a beautifully dark and distant sound. The more I get into this the happier I am. So far, NO GHOST has my vote for best of 2011. Holy shit, holy shit sholy hit.

I have not posted here yet, though Zack invited me to a while ago, so here we go...

Enemies, instrumental twinkle rock from Ireland, came across my tumblr dashboard about a week ago, and I have been listening to them non-stop. For being an instrumental group, these songs are still pretty infectious and will get stuck in your head. I find myself making guitar noises along to their songs at this point. The older material is incredibly anthemic, the 5 songs, being 5-10 minutes long each. The band's full-length from this past year has about 2 longer-than-normal songs, but the majority of the songs average about 4 minutes, give or take. The melodies, technicalities, and overall aura that Enemies exudes is both uplifting and relaxing at the same time, and I think it's hard for a band to achieve that dynamic, but they did it, and did it damn well.

If you like anything by this band, you will like this EP that much more. The recording quality is perfect for the music this band plays. The vocals feel more at home in this EP in comparison to the Landscapes EP. The guitar is more awesome than before, and the drums settle in perfectly, with the bass also having a strong tone bringing it together. This is so good, even the live song at the end is enjoyable. The guitar riffs on this EP are so rad. Try this out, especially if you like The Reptilian or Like Foxes.

Since Zack is one of those kids who doesn't much listen to music before the 90s, and I just somewhat turned him onto Sonic Youth, I figured there may be a few of you kiddos here who don't really listen to some of those bands who have been very influential in the indie/alt rock scene which in turn is what this little emo-revival/indie-emo thing has been influenced in part by as well.

I'm not going to have any order here, but the first album I'm going to list here is the album released most recently. Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation (1988) was released at a time where the alt-rock scene was just coalescing. The scene was so fragmented, you had kids playing avant-garde out in new york city, the hardcore kids down in DC, and college pop-rock music at many colleges. Sonic Youth combines these with the noise at atmosphere of bands like Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine, and add part snarky youth and film/literary/art references(Juno anybody?) into the entire album way ahead of it’s time. The way they do this is also so perfectly and seamlessly you wouldn’t even think they were combining so many different styles into one album. If you’ve never listened to this, and you’re in any way a fan of alt-indie-rock, it’s something you need to have.

Daydream Nation

Hüsker Dü is a band which has been long overdue a mention on this blog, I know that it was released back in 1984, but far too few people listen to them now-a-days, which is disappointing as they still sound as fresh as ever. Hüsker Dü broke the mold when they made this record. They started out as another hardcore band, and they were good, but they weren't doing anything different from what they rest was, and they were not happy with that. They went on to record this double LP record in 40 hours for about $2,500 bucks with each song in one take (except for two songs). They did something no hardcore/punk band had ever done, and not may do now, they made a concept album. The story is of a kid raised in an abusive household who runs off, joins the military, and finds religion, etc. They also did something punk/hardcore bands at the time didn't do either, used a melody and used classic-rock influences in their songs. It's such a great record which stands on it's own so very well. Zen Arcade is where their departure started, go older to see their hardcore roots, and head forward in their catalogue to witness their crafting of more pop oriented songs.

Zen Arcade

Gang of Four, notoriously influential, notoriously dark post-punk band which sounded like almost nothing before it. The lyrics were darker, more calculating, and anti-capitalistic than anything before. The guitar work is so angular, and ever changing that it's still a mind fuck. It's almost as if playing the same notes and rhythms was physically impossible to the guitar player. I don't know what more to say about it, it's one of the best albums I've ever listened to, and it's one of the most influential in modern day music, even if we don't think about it.

The Littlest Viking

The Littlest Viking's "Labor & Lust" is one of my favorite math-rock instrumental albums, almost ever. Tied with Tenebre and Hella. This is nothing crazy, but it is still great. Good transitions, good range in sound and style. I dig the not 100% quality of the recordings. Most bands like this over produce, but this sounds great... it's refreshing. I just got my copy in the mail the other day, so guy it too. I ordered green, but got orange. Oh well, it'll sound the same.

Gregory and the Hawk

This is also good for snow days. Gregory and the Hawk, which is Meredith Godreau, has one of the softest voices, but is still a strong singer. In Fact is one of my favorite songs, but it is a bit more cheery than the others, style-wise. This is great for anyone who likes Hop Along, Queen Ansleis or Shelby Seifers. This is more straightforward than the other too.

It snowed today, for the first time, so I am posting this. It is really good to fit the mood when it is cold and snowing, and I am stressed and worn out. It is kind of folky and warm, and while it may be slow it gives you a good feeling when you hear it. Kind of like a nice nap after your last day of classes, you know finals are still coming, but you don't have to worry about waking up at 8 and listen to some crazy lady talk about how Spongebob's crabby patties and comparative advantage and globalization relate to one another. Anyways, try this out, it is an excellent initial effort, and I would really like to hear more.

Day 7.5!!!! It has been forever that this legit as hell screamo band from Washington has released some material... but their new recordings are amazing. I loved their EP, but this is phenomenal! It is only 8 songs, but that's better than 4, and like the EP, every song is 100% rad. This release is titled "HOGZ" and as far as I know, the songs are unnamed by the band. The bass sounds excellent on this record and it is my favorite part, but the guitar, drums, and vocals all do as well. It is mixed tightly but not over-polished.

I missed this on actual day 6, so I'll give you a big post for 6 and 7...

These are the two bands that came together to form Sharks Keep Moving, who are further back in the blog. Kill Sadie's other half went on to form These Arms Are Snakes, and both bands share a similar sound, however Kill Sadie is closer to a more raw and punk sounding TAAS, like their split with Harkonen. State Route 522 is closer to late '90s early '00s emo/indie/punk like Mock Orange and Braid and stuff. Both bands are great, and here is their stuff.

I just downloaded "Smile Medicine" a few hours ago but they don't know that (maybe they will now). This is refreshing hardcore punk rock from Louisville, a good place for hardcore. They're playing their last show soon, there's a Facebook event for it and it is really a great line up! I wish I lived closer.

So here is Big Kids, and I know it isn't that new, but I just recently got into. I heard the song "Get Motion" on the Topshelf Records (BEST LABEL!) sampler and fell in love. This is pure punk greatness. For fans of bands not unlike Small Brown Bike, and Bear vs Shark (who anyone who has been reading this blog for sometime knows is my shit!). It is 9 songs, and they're all good. Pay attention to the ending of the last song, SO GOOD.

So this is the new Tigers Jaw album, TWO WORLDS. I listened through it once, I expected more. As I listen through again, I enjoyed it more. I like it, TEST PATTERNS is a great song, and there are a few others that stick out among the rest. However, that is how Tigers Jaw has always been for me, good, but some songs really shine. I haven't listened through actual speakers yet, just from my macbook, but the recording sounds alright to me. I'll give this a try on my way home tomorrow, so I can pay more attention to it.

This band is somewhat out of place for this blog, but trust me when I say that this album is way worth listening to. Just take 45 minutes out of your life, with some good speakers, and a dark room to listen through it. One would never expect ambient white noise to be so fucking beautiful. It has a certain quality that makes me think of floating through space aimlessly or being on another planet. The music literally washes out the inside of your head and replaces any bad thoughts with a feeling of pure blissfulness. Never have I heard ambient music so incredibly beautiful. This album is quickly becoming one of my favorites of all time... ever. download it HERE

Boyfriends 7" / Boyfriends & Boys and Sex 7"

Boyfriends (members of 1994!) recently released a 7" vinyl consisting of three super catchy head bobbing punk jams. The essence of 1994! is still present with this band through the lyrical content and vocal style. While songs are fairly simple and straightforward catchy punk jams, the instrumental aspect is still something to be appreciated. The dual guitars are utilized perfectly with twangy noodle shredding on top of punk rock chord progressions, all brought together and enforced by the heavy bass behind it.

They've also recently put out a split 7" with Boys and Sex. The first Boyfriends song on the album '1800BADDOUG' opens with a voice mail sample from a seemingly drunk girl who is clearly upset about being ditched by whoever she is calling. I'm not sure who this is, or the story behind it, but its hilarious! In the last few seconds of the song, after an epic group vocals chant, it slows down as the last few notes of the guitar are repeated and droned out. The second track 'Marc is Gary' jumps right in with a fast paced drum roll behind the looping guitar notes from the previous song sped up. Near the end, the sounds of the instruments get jumbled together in a mess of swirling looped guitar noises.

With that being said, the Boys and Sex side of this split is no disappointment. The first track 'Peach Juice' opens with an elegantly beautiful guitar riff into an uptempo head bobbing progression. The vocals are not dominant over the instrumentals, but mixed together just perfectly. About midway through, the song slows down and is left with the low-fi sound of a guitar and cymbals, letting the feeling of the song linger on to the end. Their second track, 'Over Everything' hits just as hard as the first. It begins without warning and jumps right into fast paced, heavy, yet twinkly guitar riffs backed by passionate and energetic vocals.

TOWERS - Self Titled

Ok, so this is a band that most people are probably familiar with already. With that in mind, I am still going to post this. Towers are a spastic, crushingly heavy philly based hardcore band featuring Craig Woods (Peter & Craig). Their songs are fast, heavy, and saturated with feedback and fuzzy guitar noises. While the music is heavy and chaotic there is a certain simplicity to it that gives off the notion that the members take less time worrying about technicality and time signature changes, and more time worrying about jamming and being fucking LOUD. Which is a perfect way to describe the band. While the recordings are loud as it is, it is a whole other experience watching them play live. They play with a passionate aggression yet keep the songs tight and comprehensible. See this band live!

Juice asked me to post this, maybe because he doesn't want to shamefully promote his own band... I don't know. But this is their new EP called "What Do You Mean We're Just Friends?" and it is awesome! The songs all stand apart from one another but still fit together as a whole. I love the vocals and I love the instrumentation. This is really fun stuff, and i am glad i finally got to hear it all! If you like any of that nostalgic, upbeat stuff that keeps coming out with cool guitar riffs, fast drums, and plenty of chances to sing along, get this.

Okay, so you guys know Bear Vs. Shark right? Good. You love them, and you love Marc Paffi, who doesn't. So, after BVS broke up there were a few bands that were in the works, Champions of History, Cannons, Wildcatting, and now Bars of Gold, and we didn't hear much from the projects until Wildcatting came along. Apparently what happened, Champions of History turned into Bars of Gold, and members of Wildcatting joined them, and now we're here.

I don't much know how to describe Bars of Gold other than Marc Paffi goodness. It sounds like Bear Vs Shark if they would have kept evolving and playing around more with musical styles and bending genre constraints. Swaggery folk, post hardcore, garage rock, and others are represented and mixed together. I may still be lamenting never being able to see Bear Vs. Shark, but this may be the salve needed to heal the wounds.

I like this band because each release sounds different, but not different enough to each be a different band. I like their final effort the best, it's clean... ballsy where it needs to be, softer where it doesn't. His vocals are clearer, and everything else is too for that matter. If you like My Hotel Year, North of America, Sinaloa, or maybe even Young Widows... this band could be for you. At times I hear a little bit of each band in at least one of their albums, but they still have their own sound. Get these!

This was my mix for the last few weeks, mostly new, mostly upbeat, and mostly nothing new to people who come here often. I just really enjoy the Merchant Ships' song for the end of summer, so I made a playlist mostly around that. I included the picture of the playlist in the .zip this time, but I don't know how the order of the files comes out when you add it to playlist (now that I think about it, I could have marked it as a compilation in itunes before I zipped it). Choke up is a band from Boston, Mass. they play their own brand of melodic hardcore/indie/screamo. very very good stuff. I recently saw them with The Effort, in fact both the effort and choke up share a guitarist. it was a nice change in sound at an all hardcore show. not only that but they played a weakerthans cover which was way rad. over all this EP worth downloading. it has its group chants and awesome raspy vocals mixed with its catchy melodies and breakdowns.

Really quick, this is fairly old, I first heard from them on a trustkill compilation when I was in like 7th grade, and that song on it "Dream Apnea" is still one of my favorite songs. This is really great melodic hardcore/punk/whatever. It's fun and really listenable. "Snake Charmer" and "Inverse Achilles" are also great songs, but the whole album is really fun. It's good if you like Jawbreaker, Quicksand, or Mock Orange.

This is another band I came across, unfortunately I can't find a download for it. It's ok though, it's 5 bucks and i ordered it anyways... This is awesome. It's one part At the Drive In, one part Hot Water Music, and one part just anything related that's awesome. It's fun, it's old school and new school. This is honestly awesome. SLUTS AND COCONUTS is an awesome song. This is perfect for my musical mood lately. Has some noodles, has some awesome straightforward parts, and the vocals are my favorite part. It sounds like as if Marc Paffi and the singer from Bald Eagle fused.

After being greatly enthused by Juice's last post, i was doing a little bouncing around in the internet, and found a couple good bands you should check out... this is one of them.

2 man band, but lately those are among the best. They say their influences are Chalk Talk, SIRS, and Pirouette, among others, and i can hear a little bit of each in these recordings. This is fun stuff and has enough fuzz and bounciness to make the bleaker or slower moments still like-able even in your most upbeat of moods. The guitar tones are awesome and fit perfectly, the drums are really snare-y and sweet too! The vocals are nice as well, singing is soft(er) but meaningful, and the drummer's yell sound really ballsy and stressed. They're pretty young but it's a great effort. They have two ep's linked for free on their myspace... so I will just link to the myspace.

I have to say this is some of the best emo i've heard in along time. I can really get into this. this band is pretty much spot on. very catchy guitar riffs and the screamy vocals fit perfectly. the finger tapping isn't over the top they know when and where to add it, make for some catch tunes. they are also able to change temp in the middle of the song with out skipping a beat. something not easy to do and not seen very often over all a really solid band. they're a four piece from new york you may have seen them appear on the the cake life collective volume 2. this is their six song EP.

I really want to like these guys, I REALLY DO. They have some great ideas, some great riffs, but then it all comes crashing down. It's Isaac Asimov sci-fi inspired screamo, and there are times it's amazing. Great skramz screams with fast guitar playing devolving into slow Bear Vs. Shark style post-hardcore riffs/drum beats. The guitar work is good, the slowing of the pace and quote reading is kind of cool, but a couple of qualms I have still.

The keyboard a lot of the time sounds misplaced, there are places there the keyboard fits really perfectly, but when played through the whole song with the really obvious keyboard sound it's really discordant, off putting and it almost sounds like the band isn't quite sure what they want to be. I like how they switch speed on the fly, and for the most part, they do it well, but there are times where what they switch to just doesn't fit. Like 3:12 into the first song, the keyboard takes forefront, and it sounds like a children's song placed right into the smack dab of the some skramz. Another time this happens is in the second song right in the first 45 seconds, it starts off okay with a disco beat played on the keyboard (upfront again), and then it drops into a dance song.

Overall, I do want to like it, and the second two songs of their EP are good, and they tone down on the keyboard, and their songs flow better. I just think that they do need to tone down on the keyboard during their songs and place it where it fits, and nix the keyboard solos and total disco bits.

At least check them out, they have a lot of potential.

I forgot where or when I found this album but the song Lemon Lime Be On Time should play every time I walk into a new room. This album has a lot of energy, and a lot of good riffs. The songs go through from one to the next well and all the songs have their own sound. It's just some good indie rock. Jammin' the Wedge and Rodents of Unusual Size are great songs.

Sorry this picture sucks... it was the biggest one I could find. This is their album The Composition of Ending and Phrasing, i remember seeing it on Soulseek randomly a few years back, but I was young and thought the name sounded cool, so I went for it. I also used to be an avid Indieworkshop.com reader, because they had great reviews (FUCK PITCHFORK, sometimes...), but they kind of shat on this cd. They called it generic and bland, which is guess I kind of true, but it it still fun and catchy. If you like Touch Committee or Everyone Everywhere, you might like this... However don't expect that sound so much, I am just always reminded of them when I hear those bands. Some ballsy riffs, some catchy parts, some stupid parts... yeah. But try it out, I may be stupid, and only still like it because... it has been one of those things I have just always listened toooooo.

Meh, anyways, try out the album, and start it from the beginning... The first half of the cd is stronger than the second, but it all has its own moments (some of the lyrics are stupid, but who cares?).

Thermal Dynamics and Cool Pool Keg Toss Pete have been two of my favorite songs lately, and I know this will sound just as good. I just started it, and I love it already. His voice reminds me of My Hotel Year, who I sadly still love, even though I have never read a nice thing about them... (I'll post them next because maybe some of you will like it). Tiny Town is probably my favorite so far, and the gang vocals 2 minutes into Tiny Boats is fucking awesome! Anyways, you guys should check this out if you haven't already, and try their other stuff. I don't know what to say, I have been pumping these jams an obscene amount over the last couple of weeks. They are so god damn fun, interesting, and the melodies are so damn catchy. Yeah they have a weird name, and yes they may be one of the few good things to come out of Chicago(that's right, fuck deep dish pizza), but don't let their locality dissuade you from listening to them. Think instrumental and mathy like Don Caballero, but played at a party with dudes who want to just cause some fun. On last.fm they're called a party math rock band, and really that's the best description for these dudes. If you like fun, give it a try.

sorry for the lack in posts lately, classes, presentations, and papers are taking over my life.

finally, something more from this guy. i think kristian matsson is the best folk artist around right now. it's not hill billy folk... it's in the middle of all types. it's the folk that's comforting, warming, and fun, but at times it's cold, dark, lonely, and depressing. it's perfect. it makes me want to smoke a pipe, sit on a porch in the morning fog in the mountains of new zealand or something, watching horses run free. he pulls of american folk better than most american folks. this is honestly one of my favorite artists, i could listen to matsson's songs on repeat forever, they fit every occasion and every mood.

anyways, for this daytrotter session... there are no 'new' songs. one is a cover of bob dylan's "i want you" done on banjo. and it has three other songs from shallow graves, done with alternative instrumentation. one with piano, one with electric guitar, and one with a slightly shallow sounding clean distort to the guitar. this is beautiful. i wish i could have versions like these for every song by him. i can say no bad about the tallest man on earth.

DOWNLOAD this now, regardless of what you're into lately. and get his other releases further back in the blog. these songs are ageless, and i think that's part of the appeal to them.

PERHAPS, I SUPPOSE... i remember driving down to florida one summer to go camping, and i listened to this cd repeatedly for a good part of the ride down. i can't even remember how long ago this was... 6th or 7th grade maybe... this is one of the best pop punk cds i have heard. the instrumentation is ridiculously good and catchy, but not tacky and over polished. it sounds like what a pop punk cd should sound like. i have been spinning through this a lot lately... if you like technical and intelligent pop punk, this is for you. his voice may be irritating to some, but overlook it at first, and pay attention to the music. you'll love this eventually.

Ticklebutt 26 Band Cassette Compilation

This is the cassette you all should have been waiting for. Ticklebutt Records & Softcity put this fantastic 26 band compilation together for you. According to the back of the booklet I got number 280 out of 500, so it seems to be a very limited run. If you can get your hands on it, do it, they may or may not run more. I had been meaning to get it, but I was holding off because the Boys & Sex CD I had ordered in September had yet to come in. Much to my surprise, a package arrived from Justin of Boys & Sex/Snowing today, and in there was a gift for waiting so long, this tape.

This little tape has all of your favorite bands. Ape Up!, Best Friends, Peter & Craig, Boys & Sex, 1994!, Snowing, Boyfriends, Algernon Cadwallader, Hop Along, and more that you may not be familiar with yet. About half of this tape is made up of unreleased songs too, so it's nice to get a little more of the bands you love, and see a little of the bands that they love. I already listened to it a few times today and it's all gold. I recorded it directly off the cassette, and removed the hiss from all the songs.

The Cake Life Collective is a group of friends who just wanna have fun, play good tunes, and pass on the love. It's made up of Ape Up!, Black Churches, Cameron Wisch, Chalk Talk, The Consecos, Pirouette, Prawn, Quiltary, Sharks Roar, Wood Goold, and Zona Mexicana. You all should know at least most of these bands, but if not you're going to find out.

They put together a compilation of their tunes and released it for free. It had no order to it, so I put the tunes in an order that I think works pretty decently. It ranges from some country inspired, relaxed indie-rock/pop(Wood Goold), all the way to some awesome emo-revival stuffs with gritty shout-sing vocals(Ape Up!). Basically, this compilation is awesome.

Please don't mind the retard in the corner not jamming out to some rad tunes. Hop Along, Queen Ansleis is some of THE most fun music I have ever heard. The poppy version of Mal Blum, if you have any idea who she is. Fuck it, think Tegan & Sara gone poppy and more experimental, oh, and fun! Hop Along was originally a solo project by Frances, but eventually added two other nice people to the group. Freshman Year is the debut album, and it's swell. If swell meant potentially the most fun music of 2005, then yes! Wretches is good too, but it's only like three songs, well four in my download, because I added in a song from their purevolume account. It's so good, promising EP for the full release that will hopefully be coming soon. Keep an eye out for this band, they rule.

sadly... their shortest release... the 4 song ep... is my favorite... there's not enough songs on it. all three releases are good though. music is pretty straight forward. song cool riffs here and there, the guys voice is awesome. they are from the dc area i believe. their sound is kind of a mix of melodic hardcore/punk, post-hardcore, indie, emo kind of ish stuff. it's nothing out of the ordinary. in between hey mercedes and the movielife. mad catchy, but not it a stupid way. make sure you download the alaska ep if you only try one. lusitania is my second favorite.

If you dont have this album already then you should definitely get it. I remember there being huge controversy over this album because its Jay Z's Black album mixed with the Beatles white album, now if that doesn't sound appealing I don't blame you but you really should give it a try. I know it was nowhere to be found for awhile because DJ Danger Mouse AKA Gnarls Barkley [the guy who mixed it] was being sued for using the Beatles songs with out permission. Regardless of all that this is one of the best hip hop albums I have ever listened to. I'm not the biggest fan of the Beatles but its still super awesome to hear the two albums mixed.

i had this liked this, and never listened to this enough for some reason unknown. anyways, the split is awesome, and are both ep/demos. really fun tunes from boost. some nice twinkly guitars and well paced drums. his voice is hidden perfectly enough behind the instruments. fine lines is a bit more on the screamo side. nice instrumentation, they have that nice fuzzy tone and the vocals are good and go along with it well. if you like algernon, boys and sex, 1994!, or grown ups or anything like that, you'll definitely dig these bands.

I recently saw these guys play a show and I was blown away with how rad they were, not only is the drummer playing the drums but he's also playing a melody on the synth. they're a two piece band from North Carolina. They play fast paced instrumental songs which surprisingly doesn't get old like I would expect. This album is called i am the spring and it has an ambient post punk feel to it.

awful band name, but now i like it! i avoided this band, regardless of any praise or any shit-talk i read, just because of the name. i am glad i tried it. this stuff is SO MUCH FUN. LOOK AT THE PICTURE!!!! don't listen to it expecting something ground breaking or badass, or whatever, because it's not, it doesn't have to be. i fell in love with this band the moment i heard them. quickly paced melodic hardcore punk. if old school moneen, and betrayed made a band, or it the movielife it's go time era got with zombie apocalypse (even though that's a HUGE stretch) i feel like this is what it would sound like. when i listened to it felt like i had been listening and loving it for years. his voice sounds so familiar, i can't think of who it reminds me of though.

oh, and they're from NORWAY!

everynight fire works. i used to listen to this album a lot after i bought it, but haven't in a year or two. since i am back into the swing of less heavy music (woo!), i have listened a few more times. this is one of those things... if you don't have it yet... you've been living under a rock, or you hate it, or whatever. i didn't know till a while ago that this band was from the aftermath of braid breaking up, so, keep that in mind if you want to try this out. it's good mid paced indie-ish rock with a somewhat unique voice. i mean it's not anything crazy, he's just got a nice tone to it. i especially like the drumming.

another repost, because of how good they were. its my last.fm name which some of you may know. this band is really unique. really dark, with great instrumentation. gives you a weird feeling when you listen, or at least to me it does; almost nostalgic and empty. some people might not like this, but others will hopefully appreciate it as much as i do.
